Winter Inspiration: Ralph Lauren

These are from the Ralph Lauren Winter 2012 collection. They aren't new by any means, but they offer a persisting reminder of what your Winter wardrobe should be carrying, notably tweed, wool, cashmere, corduroy, and leather.

The cut and tailoring of this suit is impeccable. Also, I like wearing a jacket on your shoulders, it provides sufficient warmth when you're just traversing between say car and house where it isn't necessary to pry your sleeves through your coat and adjust everything to sit nicely.

Here'e the perfect way to wear a cricket sweater (vest). I wouldn't normally put so many neutral tones together, but the greys and color from the sweater keep it interesting. Also note the tattersall club collar shirt.

A great outfit for campus, this is close to the variations I will be wearing when I return next week.

I'm not as big on fair isle as everyone else is at the moment, but I like the pattern mixing here.

Of note here is the waxed cotton vest over tweed and the supremely warm looking wool scarf.

Finally, I really enjoy that leather bombers are back in action. I've been wearing my Hardy Amies leather jacket everywhere and in a similar fashion with a sweater and tie.

I was looking at these just yesterday on another site, and I never cease to be amazed by Polo's photography and styling. Even now I'm spending more time than I should going over the details.

I'd love to have the cricket sweater in the second photo, but it seems to have not been released.

The orange socks are a wonderful detail in the photo below that, adding an unexpected pop of color to an otherwise quiet outfit.

I own the fair isle shown directly below that and highly recommend you check it out. I purchased mine at Macy's for $65, more than I'd like to spend but it was the only one left and down from $245.

In summary, I could dress like this every day.

... oh wait, I already do.

Happy new year!
